Substance Abuse Therapy & Assessments

We recognize that substance use is often a way of coping with life's challenges and so while we do pay attention to the particulars of the substance use itself, we seek to get to the root of the behaviors, thoughts and challenges that play a factor in substance use. We operate from a harm reduction framework, meaning that abstinence may not be the goal for everyone and we support folks in your specific goals. We have clients who attend AA meetings, NA meetings, Dharma Recovery meetings, etc., and we have others who go through recovery outside of group meetings. We believe that there are many paths to wellness and will help you create your own path according to what you are hoping to achieve, while also holding you accountable and having tough conversations about things. Our director Josh Curie has held an advanced drug and alcohol counseling certification in the state of Michigan since 2018 and oversees our substance abuse services. Currently we provide individual, couple and family therapy to those impacted by substance use, either directly or indirectly, as well as substance abuse assessments.
Substance Abuse Assessments
For individuals seeking substance abuse assessments for court-related reasons, we use the SOS-258 form which is required by the State of Michigan for a number of reasons, including as part of a driver's license reinstatement packet. We have online scheduling available for these appointments and can schedule in person (Southfield) or remotely from anywhere in the state of Michigan. We will need you to send us or bring to us your SOS-257 completed form prior to your appointment. We send 2 substance abuse inventories in advance to complete (DAST-10 and CRAFFT Version 2.1) and then we will administer a 3rd inventory (Addiction Severity Index) in person during your assessment, alongside your SOS-258 form. These meetings typically last about 45 minutes and will never exceed 1 hour.
A standard turnaround frame for the SOS-258 to be completed is 7-10 business days from the date of your appointment. This allows us adequate time to review all of the responses and scores to be able to type up a thorough overview for the court based on your results. The cost is $300 and insurance is not utilized in this process. Expedited assessments can be completed within 5 business days and cost $425.

Should you want to seek therapy for substance use after your assessment, we accept a wide number of insurance plans that you would be able to use toward the cost of care.
